Minutes of the VICUG-NYC
Steering Committee Meeting
September 23, 1997

Present: Peter Altschul, Pam Ash, Tom Dekker, Gregory Rosmaita, and Janina Sajka

Topics discussed included:

1. Sarah Morley As Speaker at October General Membership Meeting
   • Gregory Rosmaita agreed to send her another invitation via email, and Janina Sajka agreed to bring up the topic during a telephone conversation scheduled for September 24th.
   
   
2. Changing the Day of General Membership Meetings
   • The committee agreed that future meetings should take place during the second Tuesday of each month in order to avoid conflicts with holidays. Tom Dekker volunteered to discuss this matter with Ruth-Ellen Simmonds to assure that space could be made available at TAB for this purpose. The matter will be discussed during the next general meeting.
   
   
3. Topics for Future Meetings
   • November: Bill Schiavo to speak about Linux, a UNIX-based operating system for personal computers. Gregory agreed to contact him.
   • December: some kind of holiday gathering (to be organized in the near future)
   • January: a demonstration of real audio (to be coordinated by Janina).
   
   
4. The BNS Group: Is It a SIG or Isn't It?
   • Peter Altschul agreed to attend their next meeting on November 1 to determine if the group wishes to be a part of VICUG. If they do, we agreed that the bylaws should be amended to include SIG chairs (in this case, Iris Torres) as non-voting Steering Committee members.
   
   
5. 5. Microsoft Meeting
   • Janina Sajka indicated that several useful connections were made with local developers which might prove beneficial in the future (for example, Greg Rosmaita will be presenting at the November meeting of the Object Developers group).
