Minutes of VICUG NYC Steering Committee Meeting
Tuesday, March 4, 1997

ITEM 2: Discussion of organizational matters

1. Collecting dues (Should we?)
   
   
2. Agreeing to add Gregory Rosmaita and Zoreida Morrison to the steering committee
   
   
3. Holding future steering committee meetings via teleconferencing (will do)
   
   
4. Electing Peter Altschul as minutetaker
   
   
5. Becoming an official nonprofit organization (put on hold)
   
   
6. Developing flexible written by-laws. Steering committee will develop recommendations to be presented during the May meeting. Tom Dekker will solicit assistance from Tom Miotke
   
   
7. Electing Ruth-Ellen Simmons as treasurer
   
   
8. Creating a subaccount for money (with the potential of a separate account in the future)
   
   
9. Brainstorming how to publicize future meetings more effectively (e-mail not totally effective) via a "telephone tree" (Ruth-Ellen will coordinate alerting people about the next meeting after Tom faxes list of telephone numbers)
   
   
10. Discussing whether to change the day of the meeting from Monday to Saturday to draw in more students (to be announced at the 3-10 meeting)
    
    
11. Alerting Disability Services Offices of the group
    
    
12. Agreeing to devote May's meeting to business matters ("meeting day issue, steering committee report, etc.)
    
    
13. Developing a revolving pattern of meeting presentations (for beginners, intermediate, advanced, beginners, etc.)

Topic for April meeting: "How to Purchase a Good Computer Cheap (determining what you want/what's out there, being a smart shopper, etc.)

Next steering committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 25th, time to be announced. It is hoped that by-laws will be available for inspection by Friday, March 21.
